Quest

Both Quest, and Seek are pieces of artwork in my Light Seekers series, and focus strongly on finding one’s inner fire, light, or motivation. In my practice and in my life, I’ve found that I’m often on a quest for happiness and fulfillment. The more I look for it the more I find it, and I find it everywhere too! I find my light when I skate, I ride my bike, or when I walk my dog. I’ve been finding light when I paint when I work hard, and when I rest enough to look back at my efforts. I find it in learning new hobbies, studying new techniques, and applying them to my life and practice. When I give myself permission to seek light, I’ve found it.
Through color and movement, I’m also trying to share a mood and a feeling. These massive, larger-than-life figures dance across the composition in surreal lights made of pink, purple, teal, yellow, and grey. There are gestures of pattern and mark-making that sweep from left to right, along with birds and non-representational elements that help drive visual movement. I wanted both of these pieces to feel intimate in their depictions of individual people, but also hopeful in nature, filled with joy, and maybe a little chaotic. Our searches for fulfillment are rarely clean, direct, and known, they’re filled with passion and yearning.
Cheers to the Quest.
